Swindon's crafting community group
Swindon Big Knit is deeply grateful to the sponsors and funders who support us financially. Their generosity allows us to buy yarn and materials so we can continue creating much needed knitted, crocheted and sewn items for vulnerable and elderly people across Swindon. Every donation helps us keep our projects running, and keeps is making items for people who need extra support.
Our sponsors make a real difference. We see the joy and delight on the faces of the people who receive our handmade items, and we know that this would not be possible without the organisations and individuals who choose to support our work. Their kindness strengthens our community and helps us reach more people every year.

Swindon Big Knit is a friendly community craft group where people come together to knit, sew and crochet handmade items that are gifted back into the local community. Our volunteers create warm, woollen makes that bring comfort, care and connection to those who need it most. We regularly donate our knitted items to Swindon charities, support organisations and community groups who reach out to us for help. Our makers have created a huge range of comforting items including blankets, hats, premature baby clothes, knee blankets, twiddle muffs, story sacks, wrist warmers, mini Christmas stockings and our much‑loved chocolate orange cosies. Every piece is handmade with love and given freely to vulnerable people, families in crisis and local services that support them.
But Swindon Big Knit is about more than the things we make. Our meet‑ups offer companionship, conversation and a welcoming space for anyone who wants to craft alongside others. Many of our members join for the creativity and stay for the friendships, the social connection, laughter and support are just as important as the knitting itself. Crafting together boosts wellbeing, reduces loneliness and builds a strong network of friends who look out for one another both inside and outside our sessions. We are a community group helping our community; and also a community in our own right. A group of makers, friends and volunteers using yarn, creativity and kindness to make Swindon a warmer and more connected place.
