About Swindon Big Knit

Swindon's crafting community group

Swindon Big Knit is a community crafting group that brings people together to create handmade items that support vulnerable and elderly people across Swindon. Our makers knit, crochet and sew a wide range of comforting items, including childrens jumpers for the womens refuge, story sacks for schools and community groups, and the ongoing blankets of hope project which offers warmth and reassurance to people who need extra support.

With the help of grants and donations we buy new yarn and materials so that every item we make is created with care, colour and quality. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors and funders who make it possible for us to continue this work and reach more people in the community.

Our aims are simple. We want to bring people together, reduce loneliness, encourage creativity and provide practical help to organisations that support families, older people and those facing difficult times. Every project is designed to make a positive difference, whether it is a cosy blanket, a set of childrens jumpers or a story sack that helps a child enjoy reading.

We welcome new members of all skill levels. Whether you are an experienced crafter or picking up needles for the first time, you will find a friendly space to learn, chat and create. Our group is built on kindness, connection and the joy of producing essential handmade items that provide warmth, comfort and dignity for vulnerable and elderly people in Swindon.

We also work closely with local organisations who need handmade items for the people they support. If your service, school or community group would benefit from our makes, we would love to hear from you. Together we can bring comfort, colour and community spirit to people across Swindon.
